Just like the whipped confection we named it after, Meringue is a plump and airy yarn. Made using a special air powered process, Meringue works up into delightfully chunky knits and crochet projects, without the weight of traditionally spun bulky yarns. A beautiful blend of baby alpaca, wool and nylon, Meringue is plush and fuzzy with enough substance to play the role of main character. Because of the unique way this yarn is made, a small amount of shedding will occur during the dye process. This does not affect the final appearance or the weight of the yarn.

Skeins
A skein is loop of yarn twisted into a helix shape. This shape is the most common presentation of hand dyed yarn you will see in a yarn store.
The skein is tied to prevent the yarn from getting tangled during dyeing. Skeined yarn needs no extra preparation to dye. Just untwist the skein to lay it flat and it’s ready for your dye process.
Pack
A pack is several skeins of yarn packaged together in a bag. Typically yarn comes in 5 or 10 skeins per pack, which equals 500 to 1000 grams, depending on the yarn type.
These skeins are twisted and come with a tag, so they are ready for retail shelves. If you choose to dye them, these skeins are great for beginners because they have a lower chance of getting tangled.
Folded Hanks
A hank is a loop of yarn that is folded instead of twisted like a skein. For bulk dyeing, folded hanks save time because you don’t need to untwist them before dyeing.
There is no difference between the yarn in a folded hank and a skein. Folded hanks come without tags and in 500 or 1000 gram packs, depending on the yarn type.

Mini Skeins
Mini skeins are small skeins of yarn made for things like needlepoint, color work, and advent calendars.
A typical skein weighs 50 or 100 grams. Mini skeins weigh 20 grams.
Cones
A cone is a length of yarn wound around a paper cone. Each cone weighs 1 kilo, the equivalent of 10, 100 gram skeins or 1000 grams.
Cones can be used to create extra long skeins for hand painting or gradients.
