After years of wishing, perhaps upon a star, we have at last perfected the perfect sparkle yarn. We held many auditions until we found our starring blend, perfected the structure, giving it the correct amount of twist and sparkle. Finally, a star of a yarn is born. We are thrilled to announce our newest offering: Estrella! A glittery blend of extrafine superwash merino wool and lurex that sparkles like the Hollywood walk of fame.

Unlike most sparkle yarns, where fine, short, sparkly threads are combed into the wool before spinning, Estrella’s structure is 2 plies of wool twisted with a 3rd ply of lurex. This means no shedding and no sparkly ends sticking out of the yarn. Additionally, this structure gives Estrella a refined, sleek look. Lurex has less heat sensitivity than stellina, so you don’t have to worry about lowering your dye pot’s temperature or changing up your acid. Thank your lucky stars, because Estrella takes heat beautifully, and the sparkle particularly pops when dyed bright or deep colors. With its undeniable star quality, you’ll want to give Estrella a leading role in your dyeing lineup.

Skeins

A skein is loop of yarn twisted into a helix shape. This shape is the most common presentation of hand dyed yarn you will see in a yarn store.

The skein is tied to prevent the yarn from getting tangled during dyeing. Skeined yarn needs no extra preparation to dye. Just untwist the skein to lay it flat and it’s ready for your dye process.

Pack

A pack is several skeins of yarn packaged together in a bag. Typically yarn comes in 5 or 10 skeins per pack, which equals 500 to 1000 grams, depending on the yarn type.

These skeins are twisted and come with a tag, so they are ready for retail shelves. If you choose to dye them, these skeins are great for beginners because they have a lower chance of getting tangled.

Folded Hanks

A hank is a loop of yarn that is folded instead of twisted like a skein. For bulk dyeing, folded hanks save time because you don’t need to untwist them before dyeing.

There is no difference between the yarn in a folded hank and a skein. Folded hanks come without tags and in 500 or 1000 gram packs, depending on the yarn type.

50g Skeins

50 gram skeins are skeins weighing 50 grams each. We offer this presentation for some of our most popular yarns

Mini Skeins

Mini skeins are small skeins of yarn made for things like needlepoint, color work, and advent calendars.

A typical skein weighs 50 or 100 grams. Mini skeins weigh 20 grams.

Cones

A cone is a length of yarn wound around a paper cone. Each cone weighs 1 kilo, the equivalent of 10, 100 gram skeins or 1000 grams.

Cones can be used to create extra long skeins for hand painting or gradients.
