With 100% natural materials trending everywhere from the runway to your favorite local yarn shop, eco friendly yarns are all the rage. Caring for the environment is one of our core tenets at Knomad, so we challenged ourselves to create a durable sock yarn using only natural materials. Spun from 80% merino wool, Kid Mohair replaces nylon in this novel blend. The mohair is blended into the yarn so well that it adds more strength to Natura than halo. The 4 ply construction of the yarn only adds to the durability of Natura. The merino content of Natura picks up color quickly and easily, while mohair brings a more diffuse wash of color to the yarn. We created Natura with the natural sock knitter in mind, but it is just as well suited to sweaters and tops as it is to footwear.

Skeins

A skein is loop of yarn twisted into a helix shape. This shape is the most common presentation of hand dyed yarn you will see in a yarn store.

The skein is tied to prevent the yarn from getting tangled during dyeing. Skeined yarn needs no extra preparation to dye. Just untwist the skein to lay it flat and it’s ready for your dye process.

Pack

A pack is several skeins of yarn packaged together in a bag. Typically yarn comes in 5 or 10 skeins per pack, which equals 500 to 1000 grams, depending on the yarn type.

These skeins are twisted and come with a tag, so they are ready for retail shelves. If you choose to dye them, these skeins are great for beginners because they have a lower chance of getting tangled.

Folded Hanks

A hank is a loop of yarn that is folded instead of twisted like a skein. For bulk dyeing, folded hanks save time because you don’t need to untwist them before dyeing.

There is no difference between the yarn in a folded hank and a skein. Folded hanks come without tags and in 500 or 1000 gram packs, depending on the yarn type.

50g Skeins

50 gram skeins are skeins weighing 50 grams each. We offer this presentation for some of our most popular yarns

Mini Skeins

Mini skeins are small skeins of yarn made for things like needlepoint, color work, and advent calendars.

A typical skein weighs 50 or 100 grams. Mini skeins weigh 20 grams.

Cones

A cone is a length of yarn wound around a paper cone. Each cone weighs 1 kilo, the equivalent of 10, 100 gram skeins or 1000 grams.

Cones can be used to create extra long skeins for hand painting or gradients.
