As dyers, we are always thinking of the end use of the yarn we dye. Who will knit, crochet, or create other fibre art with our yarn? Will it become a garment, an accessory, or another type of functional art? At Knomad, we also have knitters in mind when we create our yarn. We know what a delight it is to knit with the finest quality fibres so we seek out only the best quality fibres for our yarns. In an effort to show the knitting and crochet community some examples of our yarns knit up, we are taking each of our yarns for a spin! Alex kicked off our knitting bee by making a beautiful pair of baby bloomers in SPARK organic merino bare yarn. Today we’re sharing a kid’s sweater in our single ply EGRET.
EGRET is a gently twisted, fine merino yarn with the most subtle, rustic texture. The single ply construction of our EGRET bare yarn means the yarn has a slightly fuzzy halo after it’s washed. We wanted to show off the beautiful texture of the yarn, so we chose a project with a simple stitch pattern of stockinette and garter stitch, the Harvester pullover by Elyssa Samantha Taylor. One skein of EGRET is enough to make an entire Harvester sweater in size 2 years! Everyone loves a one skein wonder.
The Harvester sweater knits up quickly on US size 5 needles. The top down raglan construction is a breeze to knit, and minimal finishing is required. EGRET makes a beautiful finished fabric once it is knit up. It has a soft hand, and a light feel. Merino wool is an excellent temperature regulator, making it a great choice for active kids who run and play, indoors and out. You will feel extra virtuous putting kids in garments made from EGRET, because the yarn happens to be certified organic! You would never guess this economical and elegant yarn is also eco-friendly.
Coming in at 437 yards for each 100gram skein, you can use EGRET almost anywhere you’d use a fingering or sock yarn. Soft as a cloud, you won’t hesitate to wear EGRET next to skin, making it perfect for socks, scarves, tops and sweaters. It is equally beautiful in its natural state as it is dyed. All of our yarns are available in single skeins, so you can try them before you buy in bulk. Wondering if EGRET is right for your project?
